June 2016 More News

Hardly a week has passed since the June Machin News Post and we have much more to report. It seems that the development of the once humble Machin definitive is never ending, or should I say for ever changing!

Over the past few months specialist collectors have been examining their stamps in detail, something I have admit I do not do as often as I should. Perhaps this is to do with the fact that I no longer purchase (collect) self adhesives in volume. Anyway back to the specialists that do.

It seems as though they have discovered a new type of phosphor. Compared to earlier phosphor compounds this new variety is a lot duller under certain types of UV light. There is nothing concrete yet as the experts are still examining certain issues and making inquiries, but is quite possible that a new phosphor is about to be unveiled. Douglas Mayall,s notation of A2B phosphor could have a successor with the code A3B if the results are positive.

Custom Booklets

Another custom booklet will be issued on August 16 2016. This will be entitled Landscape Gardens and contain 2 x 1st class Capability Brown special issues and 4x Amethyst purple 1st class Machins. The codes will be the same as the previous booklet (Beatrix Potter). It may pay to check the phosphor just in case it is of the new dull type.

New Type Face

Reported by Ian the type face on booklet covers and business sheets is about to change. His observations state that the first one will be issued in August on 28th July 2016. This will be a booklet of 6 x 1st class (Red). The cover will show a padlock design. More important to collectors of the actual stamps, these will be new and have a new code M16L / MSIL. Again check the phosphor against previous issues. More booklets will follow later in the year.

To finish. How to determine International Security Printings / Walsall  from Cartor. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) numbers are different. Walsall - C023216. Cartors is C100572.

De La Rue and Enschede also have their own FSC numbers. I will make inquiries and find out what they are.

De La Rue - C020244
Enschede -   C017480

This will be issued on 28 July, same date as the Beatrix Potter mixed booklet which contains purple stamps.
